Mounts Overview

What are Mounts?

Mounts allow you to attach external storage locations to your Yeedu clusters. This enables secure, read-only or read-write access to data stored on:

  • Cloud storage (S3, Azure Blob Storage, GCS)
  • On-premises storage systems
  • Network storage (NFS, SMB)

Key Features

Mount Configuration

  • Create and manage multiple mount points
  • Configure read-only or read-write access
  • Support for encryption
  • Custom configuration options
  • Validation before mounting

Cluster Integration

  • Map mounts to specific clusters
  • View mount assignments per cluster
  • Enable/disable mounts without recreating clusters
  • Monitor mount status and health

Security

  • Encryption type selection
  • Credential management through Secrets
  • Permission-based access control
  • Audit logging for mount operations

Data Management

  • Pagination support for large mount lists
  • Bulk operations on mounts
  • Mount validation and diagnostics
  • Extra configuration support for advanced use cases

Supported Storage Types

Cloud Storage

  • Amazon S3: AWS object storage
  • Azure Blob Storage: Microsoft Azure storage
  • Google Cloud Storage: Google Cloud object storage

Network Storage

  • NFS: Network File System (POSIX-compliant)
  • SMB: Server Message Block (Windows-compatible)

On-Premises

  • Hadoop-compatible filesystems (HDFS)
  • Custom storage backends with proper configuration

Common Use Cases

  1. Data Access: Mount data lakes for cluster processing
  2. Shared Resources: Mount common datasets across multiple clusters
  3. Backup Storage: Mount backup locations for data protection
  4. Archive Storage: Mount cold storage for historical data
  5. Integration: Connect to external systems and databases

Mount Operations

Basic Operations

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Mounts section
  2. Click Create Mount
  3. Select storage type
  4. Configure credentials and path
  5. Set encryption (optional)
  6. Validate and save
  7. Map to clusters as needed

Performance Considerations

  • Mount operations are asynchronous
  • Large files benefit from network optimization
  • Encryption may impact performance
  • Monitor mount health regularly
